Interior Painting Color Trends, Tips and Wall Paint Ideas for 2017

Our homes are a reflection of both our personal styles and ourselves. When we’re interior decorating, we tend to choose home décor items and colors that make a room look gorgeous while following the latest interior design trends. You may think that following trends will put a damper on expressing your personality through your home’s design. However, you can easily express you personality while following the latest trends with 2017’s hottest interior paint colors.

Blues

Dark and dusky blues are on trend for wall paint colors this year. These darker shades can make for a bold and sophisticated statement, especially when paired with white trim and other color-contrasted accessories. If you’d rather go for a lighter, not as bold shade, try a more powdery blue. Aqua and Tiffany blues can give their own touches of drama, especially when paired with white trim and darker colored flooring.

Greens

When Pantone named Greenery as its 2017 Color of the Year, we knew that green would be in high demand. Pantone’s shade is bright, refreshing and fun. It’s also bold and sophisticated, especially paired with bright whites and other complementary accent colors. If you’re not a fan of bright shades of green but still want a bold look, try an emerald shade of green. Emerald is a beautiful, classic and elegant choice for any room. If you’d prefer a calmer, muted shade of green, try olive or earthy green tones paired with taupe or beige.

Blue-Greens

Deeper shades of blue-green area bold and dramatic choice, especially when paired with stunning accent pieces in bright colors such as orange, yellow, or red. Mid-toned blue-greens can look stunning with certain shades of Cobalt while maintaining an elegant and dramatic look. If you’re hesitant to go with an overly bold shade, try a lighter hued aqua, turquoise or teal and pair it with black and white to create a classy and refreshing look.

Yellows

If you want to create a bright and cheery look in any room, you can’t go wrong with yellow. Several shades of yellow are trending this year including bright yellows, mustard yellow and more muted tones of yellow. Pairing sunshine toned yellows with pale blue-green accents will make any room look cheerful. A more muted tone of yellow can energize a neutral colored room.

Pinks and Purples

Pastel shades of pink and purple are a stylish way to get a softer look in your home. Pairing lighter shades with crisp, white trim and splashes of darker colored accessories as accent pieces can make for an inviting look. If you’re looking fora bolder statement, try a deep shade of plum paired with shades of gold, orange and/or cream. This creates a rich, luscious and layered look.

Neutrals

Using a neutral shade creates a classic look that will never go out of style. However, neutral doesn’t necessarily mean boring. A dramatic dark gray can make a room look warm and inviting, especially when paired with rich reds and yellows. Or go in the opposite direction with a bright white. One of the latest trends is to paint everything in the room the same shade of white in order to create a European flair.

Alternatively, you can go for a warm taupe color. Depending on the look you wish to achieve, you can choose a taupe with brown or beige tones, or one with more gray tones. And what if you can’t make up your mind? Mushroom is a nice middle ground between gray and brown that is currently trending.
